The coming of mobile technology and the internet in the form of smartphones and social media held the underpinnings of a new age of connecting all of us across the globe, yet instead we are finding ourselves more and more disconnected from each other than ever before on a human-to-human level. We might be able to tweet our favourite celebrities and world leaders directly, but technology has encouraged us to indulge in picking up our phones and communicating through likes and messaging rather meeting people face to face and investing in relationships with other people.
