Trump’s most auspicious and significant act since becoming President of the United States occurred late last week when he announced he would be pulling the US out of the Paris Climate Accords, generating widespread condemnation and dismay amongst just about everyone except for Trump’s core base of supporters and the nationalists working for his administration. Leaders from around the world expressed diplomatic dismay and disappointment, but newly elected French President Emmanual Macron took the prize for the most direct response, speaking in English to the American public and paraphrasing Trump’s own campaign slogan by saying Make Our Planet Great Again. Although this decision has implications for the climate change agenda, it has larger implications for America’s role in the world going forward, with everyone seeing it as a reckless retreat. Steve and Ben discuss Trump’s remarkable announcement and what it could mean for the world going forward.
