After a week of rumours, Mark Zuckerberg finally made it official by unveiling the new name of the corporation that would sit as the umbrella company for Facebook and its related subsidiaries, Meta. Calling from science fiction tropes of a digital world in which people can interact through avatars, the announcement of Meta was presented by Zuckerberg as the future of social media and the web in which users would interact with their digital content through a virtual and augmented reality environment, promising to open up a new world of possibilities for everyone. Steve and Ben examine the announcement of Meta and its potential implications for society. They also discuss the tragedy on the film set of Rust, and the fallout from the accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
