In a classic David vs Goliath story for the internet age, big Wall Street hedge funds received a rude shock this week when a group of redditors bandied together to fight against the shorting of stock for fledging game retailer Gamestop, with the redditors coming out on top when their combined purchasing activity pushed the stock price to record highs which resulted in big losses by the hedge funds who shorted the stock expecting the price to drop. Steve and Ben discuss this extraordinary story of the little guy pulling one over the financial elite, as well as another ongoing story of the spat between Apple and Facebook over the former’s introduction of ad tracking and blocking functions in iOS.
