Two fascinating announcements from Microsoft recently have the potential to re-shape everything we know about Microsoft and its future direction, including the cornerstone of its success, Windows. With the head of Windows, Terry Myerson, leaving the company leading to a re-structure that sees Windows not have a direct head, and the announcement of a new linux-based operating system for internet-of-things devices called Azure Sphere, Microsoft appears to be demoting the importance of its titanic operating system in Windows.
