Two fascinating announcements from Microsoft recently have the potential to re-shape everything we know about Microsoft and its future direction, including the cornerstone of its success, Windows. With the head of Windows, Terry Myerson, leaving the company leading to a re-structure that sees Windows not have a direct head, and the announcement of a new linux-based operating system for internet-of-things devices called Azure Sphere, Microsoft appears to be demoting the importance of its titanic operating system in Windows. Steve and Ben examine both of these stories in the context of a world where Microsoft is changing to stay relevant, and that the company’s biggest success, Microsoft Windows, may ironically become one of its least important products.
